2. Public leaderboard

A leaderboard name is requested only if your verified score qualifies for the Global Top 10. If you submit it, the game processes the nickname, score, ranking position, game title and timestamps. The nickname and score may then be displayed publicly. Do not enter your real name or other personal information.

Submitting a leaderboard entry is voluntary. The processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is a functional, fair and abuse-resistant highscore system. Only Top 10 entries are retained; an entry is overwritten when it falls out of the Top 10, when the leaderboard is discontinued or when deletion is justified and requested.

3. Necessary game session

When an online-verified run starts, the game sets the session cookie whistlewood_session. It contains only a random session identifier. Server-side session data assigns a one-time run token and the start time to the run and helps prevent manipulation of the leaderboard.

The cookie is restricted with Secure, HttpOnly and SameSite=Strict and expires when the browser session ends. Unused server-side run data is discarded after no more than 30 minutes. This storage is necessary to provide the requested verified leaderboard function (Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG).

4. Local personal best

The game saves your personal best score in your browser under the local-storage key waldklang-highscore. This value is used only to show your local “Best” score, is not transmitted to the server and remains until it is replaced by a better score or you delete the website data in your browser. Your leaderboard nickname is not stored permanently in the browser.

5. No advertising or tracking

Whistlewood does not use advertising cookies, analytics services, third-party fonts or social-media tracking. Graphics, scripts, music and sound effects are created or delivered locally by this website. The hosting provider may process technical access data as described in the general privacy policy.
